North American Indigenous Games
Games Event Date - August 3 to 10
Games Event Date - August 3 to 10

All the regions of North America will be represented, with 13 provincial and territorial teams from across Canada and as many as 20 teams from the U.S. participating. There will be 16 contemporary and traditional sporting events offered over 10 days. These Games reflect the traditions of Indigenous cultures using athletic competition to teach holistic principles integral to sport-physical, spiritual, and mental (emotional/intellectual)-while reinforcing family and cultural values.
For more information on the individual events, please see the Sport Technical Package (under Team Services).
Sporting Events:
The four age categories are determined by year of birth. For scheduling purposes, "Juniors" are any group born 1989 or later (i.e., Bantam, Midget and Juvenile).
There will also be a Master age category for Golf (born 1958 and earlier).
Special Olympics Sporting Events:
Within the Cowichan 2008 NAIG Special Olympic competitions there will be one age category (Open) for athletes born in 1992 or earlier. All Special Olympics athletes will compete together.
The NAIG Technical Committee will explore divisioning athletes according to ability for the 2011 NAIG. Divisioning will be completed based on the ability of each athlete. This process will be outlined and will offer the most equitable competition environment for all Special Olympics athletes.
